What Makes a Realm Different
Think of a Realm as a persistent location in your world. It is the tavern where adventurers gather, the space station orbiting a gas giant, or the academy dormitory where students gossip between classes. Unlike a static world page, a Realm is alive with real-time chat, character presence, and community interaction.
Planning Your Space
Before you click "Create Realm," answer these questions: What is the physical setting? Who would naturally be here? What activities happen in this space? A well-defined purpose attracts the right visitors. "A tavern in the merchant quarter" is more inviting than "my RP room."
Setting the Mood
Your Realm's description, banner image, and rules set the tone before anyone types a word. Describe the sensory experience: the smell of woodsmoke, the hum of fluorescent lights, the distant sound of waves. Make visitors feel like they have stepped into your world.
Managing Your Community
Set clear expectations in your Realm rules. Is it literate or casual? Are all characters welcome or genre-specific? How do you handle conflict? Transparent rules attract compatible writers and reduce friction.
Keeping It Active
An empty Realm is a dead Realm. Seed it with activity: have your own characters interact, create NPC encounters, post ambient descriptions of events happening in the background. Activity attracts activity. The hardest part is the first week.
