A Calmer CharHaven, An Honest Shop, And A Tidier Chat
A calmer CharHaven
- Every page has been tidied: one simple header style, one kind of button, fewer competing buttons, and no more flashing, glowing or floating effects. Pages read comfortably in both light and dark mode.
- On a phone, the first screen now shows real content (characters, articles, shop items) instead of only filters and banners, and the cookie notice is a slim bar that no longer covers the page.
- Blog articles start with the article. The interactive character worksheet now sits inside the guide, and the button at the end is readable again.
- The shop shows the catalogue first, with one sign-in prompt for visitors instead of one on every item, and the membership page lists each plan in plain words.
- Signing in and creating an account are simpler, with one heading, and the Google and Discord buttons look the same.
- Characters and worlds without a picture show a neat placeholder, and empty counts such as 0 supporters are no longer shown to visitors.
Easier to read
- We measured every piece of text on 30 public pages in light and dark mode. 206 in light mode and 85 in dark were below the recommended contrast level. They have been fixed.
- Every page has the same deep navy header, and the logo and site icons come from the official CharHaven brand kit, including the icon you get when you add CharHaven to your home screen.
- Dropdowns, scrollbars and date pickers follow the theme you picked on CharHaven instead of your device setting.
A tidier Chat
- Chat uses the same icons as the rest of CharHaven in place of emoji on its buttons, with calmer buttons, tabs and search boxes throughout, and the same rounded button shape as the main site.
- On smaller screens the conversation keeps its width. The member list, threads and pinned messages open over it instead of squeezing it, and on phones they open full width.
- The direct message list no longer scrolls sideways or cuts off names, and more of Chat can be used with a keyboard.
An honest shop
- Haven Coins are earned, not sold. You get them by taking part, and supporters receive a monthly thank-you allowance.
- The four arcade games that staked coins on chance (Coin Flip, Number Guess, Haven Slots and Blackjack) have been retired. The skill games and the free daily gacha stay.
- Everyone gets the same two free gacha draws a day. Supporters used to get more, and extra chances at a random prize are not something we want to sell.
- Three shop items promised a Haven Pass that does not exist. They are now free perks for supporters: Supporter Glow, Supporter Gold Name and the Supporter badge. The Early Bird badge has left the shop and stays with the members who own it.
- Commissions are arranged directly between artist and client. CharHaven never held commission payments, so the escrow wording and the 5% fee are gone.
- Avatar borders you have bought now show on 19 parts of the site instead of 8, including the gallery, world pages, leaderboards and the challenge hall of fame.
- The Realm Founder badge now describes itself honestly: it is a badge you buy, not an award.
New in the shop
- Thirty new cosmetics: 7 avatar borders, 7 name styles, 6 titles, 5 badges, 3 character card skins and 2 profile banners. Every one of them shows up somewhere on the site today. Card skins appear wherever character cards are shown: Discover, your profile, the home page, world pages, search and collections.
- None of the new items is random, limited or supporter-only, and all of them are bought with coins you earn.
New guides
- Four new writing guides on the blog: naming an original character, choosing point of view and tense, writing fight scenes that stay fair, and getting past writer's block. Six more are scheduled for December.
- Three guides for making your own original character in the worlds of Bleach, My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, each with starter templates. They are unofficial, use no official artwork, and are free.
New in the arcade
- Story Dice Sprint: roll five story dice, then write a short scene of 50 to 150 words in five minutes using as many of the dice words as you can. Your scene stays on your device; only the score is saved.
- Rune Search: a new lore word search every day. Drag, or tap the first and last letter, to find all ten words.
Haven Isle
- Haven Isle works on a phone: the map fills the screen, the chat panel starts closed, and the movement pad sits in the corner instead of over the menu.
- The map is sharp on high-resolution screens, the camera glides after your character, and keys no longer get stuck mid-walk.
- Chat bubbles and emotes appear above characters again, profile pictures load, name labels are readable, and grass, paths and water blend into each other instead of meeting in hard squares.
Fixes
- Profile links on forum posts, the Monthly Star leaderboard and Discord announcements open the right member's profile. Some had been opening your own.
- Links to a single post open that post instead of the whole feed.
- Arcade games fit on a phone screen.
- If you signed up with Discord or Google, CharHaven keeps its own copy of your profile picture, so it no longer breaks when you change it there. Pictures that had already broken show a placeholder instead.
- When staff open a private world, for example to check a report, that visit is recorded, as it already was for characters.
