What Makes a Good D&D Backstory?

A backstory that works at the table does three things: gives your DM hooks to use, gives other players reasons to interact with you, and gives your character something unresolved to work through during the campaign.

The backstories below are organized by common class archetypes but work for any class.

Warrior Backstories
