The Tide Wardens are a monastic order dedicated to predicting and managing temporal anomalies. Each Warden carries a Chronometer that measures the flow of time relative to the surrounding environment. When a Warden detects a temporal acceleration or deceleration, they deploy stabilising anchors. Without the Wardens, the entire archipelago would be subject to unpredictable time distortions.

The tidal waves around the Chronos Archipelago do not freeze physically. They stop in time. A wave mid-crash hangs suspended in the air, seawater forming a crystalline wall that can be walked upon or sailed through. The oldest frozen wave, known as the Eternal Crest, has been suspended for four hundred years and now serves as the foundation for the archipelago's largest city.
